Confrontation...

Image
Are you someone who struggles with avoiding confrontation? I'm not proud of it, but I have an unfortunate tendency to avoid confrontation at all costs. If I post something and it causes contention, I'll just remove it. Or, if I'm wearing something that's not well-received, I'll stop wearing it altogether. As for decisions I've made, I'll prohibit myself from expressing emotion or crying in front of the person in question.  Anyone else?  If you are like me and try to avoid confrontation at all costs.  Here are some tips on how you can help yourself when dealing with confrontation. 1. Writing it down: Writing down my thoughts and feelings can help me to process the situation and move on. This can also help me to see things from a different perspective, as it allows me to look back at the event objectively. 2. Talking to a friend or family member: Talking to someone I trust and feel comfortable with can be a great way to process the situation and find a way t

“Not Yet” Part 1

Image
The part of my life that I’m going share with you all is how I did not let life beat me down, and did my best to stay positive. On September 19, 2020, my husband purchased a brand-new motorcycle. (And yes I knew about it!) It was a beautiful bike, and I could not wait to ride that baby home! September 21, 2020…. This is the day that would change our lives forever.   Woody got home around 3:30 that day. It was my first day of vacation so I was already home. Woody had brought home some different windshields to try out and wanted to go ride and test them. Something felt off all day, and for some reason, I was not wanting to get on that bike, but I did and didn’t follow my gut instinct. At 4:05 PM we sat at the three-way traffic light barely 5 blocks from our house. Almost exactly 2 days after the purchase. There were no vehicles waiting or coming. There is a curve that comes around a local pizza place that leads vehicles toward the direction we were turning. As we started turning left, we

Happiness...Have you found it?

Image
OK! OK...International Day of Happiness was March 20th, but shouldn't every day be a day of Happiness?? We all want it and lately, that’s all I’ve heard about when listening to podcasts or watching tv.  One of the podcasts mentioned this new book The Good Life Lessons from the World's Longest Scientific Study of Happiness by Robert Waldinger  who leads the “Harvard Study of Adult Development -- one of the longest-running studies of adult life ever conducted.”  This also reminded me of another book from a few years back written by Dan Harris called 1 0% Happier.  It seems happiness is something everyone is looking for and I find that pretty interesting.  Are you looking for happiness?? Happiness can be so elusive to so many people, for example, I’ve had my bouts of depression, contemplated suicide more times than I’d like to admit, and often wondered if I'd ever find happiness again all while crying from sunset to sunrise.   What makes you happy?   Well, according to The G

Mental Health and the Workplace...

Image
We have all worked someplace where we weren't happy, or it wasn't good for us mentally but did you know? The average person spends around 90,000 hours or  one-third of their life at work , so it’s important to ensure we’re in a healthy mind space while there.   Maintaining positive mental health is critical to health and well-being. But it’s also important to our success at work and the success of our employers.  Managers take note...if your employee isn't happy your not getting what you are paying them to do! Are aware that individuals struggling with mental health issues are at greater risk for a variety of health conditions. But did you know they're also at greater risk for disability, unemployment, and underemployment?  Poor mental health and stress can negatively affect (this is not an all-inclusive list): Job performance and productivity Engagement with one’s work Communication with coworkers Physical capability and daily functioning Are you working in a good ment

Sunday Snuggles

As animal lovers, we wanted to offer places that have pets looking for Fur-Ever homes an opportunity to be spotlighted. As we are all located in different areas of the US we thought maybe this would help get the word out.  This little 4-legged cutie is Russ McGruff.  Russ suffers from a super serious, super medical condition called "little dog syndrome".  LOL To find out more about Russ and his friends at the shelter go to www.HuntingtonHumane.com

Wounds equal pearls

Image
Did you know….An oyster that has not been wounded in any way does not produce pearls?  A pearl is a healed wound. Pearls are a product of pain, the result of a foreign or unwanted substance entering the oyster, such as a parasite or a grain of sand. The inside of an oyster shell is a shiny substance called “nacre.” When a grain of sand enters, the nacre cells go to work and cover the grain of sand with layers and more layers to protect the defenseless body from the oyster.  As a result, a beautiful pearl is formed! The more pearls, the more valuable… We are all valuable with all of our wounds.  Some of us have small wounds or pearls and others have gigantic ones.  Regardless of the size, they are what makes us each beautiful.  It's hard sometimes to embrace the pain or the wound at the time, but just remind yourself that you're going to make it thru this and you'll have a pearl to show for it.   So, just a little reminder your survival rate of making it through tough times

A Sobering Secret

Image
My life was spiraling out of control right in front of my eyes. I kept it pretty hidden from almost everyone.  No one knew the extent of my drinking.  This was around the time that I reconnected with my now husband. He didn’t know either. I knew that it was only a matter of time before I did something that would ruin the rest of my life.  After months of being in therapy for losing my father and dealing with my daughter’s drug addiction, my counselor kept telling me that maybe I should stop drinking. I kept thinking to myself “what does drinking have to do with anything???” I finally listened to her and I decided to try every AA meeting around me to find out what they were all about and to see if there was something in them that I could benefit from. I found a few that I loved and a few I didn’t. I was so embarrassed the very first time that I walked into my first meeting. What if I saw someone that knew me? I never thought of the other side of the coin-hey I know that person who’s si

Snuggle Sunday

Snuggle Sunday As animal lovers, we wanted to offer places that have pets looking for Fur-Ever homes an opportunity to be spotlighted. As we are all located in different areas of the US we thought maybe this would help get the word out.  This week's Snuggle Sunday Adoptable pet comes from the Menominee, Michigan Animal Shelter. Her name is Trouble.  She looks anything but Trouble to us!  You can find more information about her or donate to the shelter by clicking on this link https://www.mashelter.org/adoptable-cats.html .  Make a 4 legged friend a family member and you'll find out why love is also a 4-lettered word.

My husband and I will have been together for almost 18 years. I met him at my nephew's MX race in 2005. He had just gotten back home from Florida after a serious accident resulted in him almost losing a hand. He had just graduated from MMI, a technical school for motorcycle mechanics. His circle ran pretty close to my nephew’s and he offered to help and be his mechanic during the races. I went to cheer my nephew on. At the end of August, he adopted Lexi and started bringing her to the races. During one of the races my nephew did particularly well and in an act of pure excitement Jeff ran to the pits to congratulate him, leaving poor Lexi tied to the fence. An act I wouldn’t soon let him forget. Over the next few months, he pursued me. Just getting out of a 2-year relationship myself I wasn’t ready for a commitment. But our encounters grew more and more frequent even well after the racing season ended. By the end of September, I was smitten, sharing our first kiss outside of his par

Meet Wink

Picture it!  A town in Virginia 2012 a young single mom starts a new job at a local University Police Department as a parking manager. When the handsome Safety Manager takes notice of her and finds out they have many things in common, music, craft beer, traveling, their birthdays, dogs, and football just for starters and so their friendship began.  In the spring of 2013, she mentions she has tickets to a craft beer festival, but can’t find a date. He offers to buy the tickets from her since she can’t use them. She sells him her tickets and then he asks her to be his date to this craft beer festival he just happened to have tickets to. Sly devil he is. So as you see “It All Started With A Beer”.  From that date forward the two enjoy many adventures, laughs, smiles, and miles. Over the following years, their hashtag #NowWhereTheyGoing takes them all over and to countless other states and even Barbados.  In the Summer of 2022 while on vacation in their favorite city of New Orleans with Me

My Favorite Love Story

Image
Hi Friends! As I said in my introduction, the story of Matt and Ninja is a motorcycle club love story. We originally met in 2014 or 2015 depending on which of us you ask. Over the next few years, we would see each other a few times a year at club events and became friends. By 2018, we had both gone through separations/divorce and Matt thought we should hang out. I thought that was a horrible idea for many reasons and would ruin our friendship. I for sure didn’t want to be involved with another police officer after being with and married to one for 14 years. After 3 months of him pestering me, I finally gave in. I figured we lived 9 hours apart and it couldn’t possibly go anywhere.  We hit it off amazingly!!!! In October 2018, after 6 months of long-distance dating, I moved from Vermont to New Jersey. Matt proposed to me in October of 2020 on the scenic Blue Ridge Parkway while on a motorcycle trip to Tennessee. We had the most perfect and beautiful wedding on the beach in Barb
